The city of Cottage Grove is sponsoring a map of the Christmas displays of its residents.
The map of the most brilliantly-decorated homes will come complete with a guide for do-it-yourself driving tours of the lights.
Molly Pietruszewski, Recreation Services manager, said the city has had a holiday lights competition for about nine years. But this year Pietruszewski decided to do something different by soliciting suggestions from the public and arranging them on a map.
The map will include suggested driving routes around the city.
“I am not aware of anyone else doing this,” said Pietruszewski.
Cottage Grove is accepting nominations from homeowners or anyone else, for any decorated residence in the city limits.
As of Thursday, she said, the city had 12 nominations already. One of them was the home of Mayor Myron Bailey.
“We call him Mr. Christmas,” said Pietruszewski.
The deadline for submission is Dec. 5, and the map will be presented on the city’s website Dec. 6. To submit a light display, email cottagegrovemn.gov/winterlights.
