Cottage Grove will soon have a new 3 percent lodging tax.
On Wednesday, the City Council voted unanimously to tax local motels, hotels and resorts.
It is expected to go into effect on Dec. 11. The tax is expected to raise up to $48,000 annually.
The proceeds from the tax will pay for a Convention and Visitors Bureau, to promote tourism to Cottage Grove.
More than 20 other cities in the metro area — including Minneapolis and St. Paul — have adopted a similar tax on lodging.
