Leafline Labs, a producer of medical marijuana, is tripling the size of its Cottage Grove plant.
The city council has approved plans for a 134,000-square-foot greenhouse, near the existing 43,700-square-foot Leafline facility.
Leafline built the original facility in Cottage Grove’s business park in 2014.
Leafline is adding on to its facility because the state recently expanded the list of conditions that can be treated with medical marijuana.
Leafline grows medical-grade marijuana in greenhouses, then processes it into various products for human consumption. The plant now employs 31 people, and the expansion will eventually require hiring 77 more.
The state’s other producer of medical marijuana is Minnesota Medical Solutions. The two manufacturers have eight specialized retail locations in the state.
