A law enforcement officer accidentally shot herself in the leg Wednesday in Cottage Grove.
The officer was injured during firearms training at the HERO Center, and was taken by ambulance to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
According to spokesman Scott Seroka, the accident occurred at 9:40 a.m. as a group of officers was firing guns in HERO Center’s indoor shooting range. The officer was injured during target practice, using her own pistol.
On Wednesday, Cottage Grove Police did not release her name, age or her law enforcement agency.
Since it opened in January 2020, the HERO Center has been used by firefighters, police and sheriff’s departments from across the state for a variety of training exercises. The incident is the first injury that has occurred in the HERO Center, according to Seroka.
