A Cottage Grove man was arrested and jailed Tuesday following an afternoon bank robbery in the city.
The 43-year-old man, who wasn’t immediately identified, is expected to be charged with robbing the Wells Fargo Bank branch at 8770 Point Douglas Road.
According to the Cottage Grove Police Department, at 3:10 p.m. a man wearing a black jacket and black hat and carrying a backpack entered the bank and demanded money. Reportedly, the suspect implied that he had a weapon, but didn’t show it. He left the bank with an unknown amount of cash, fleeing on foot.
Twenty minutes later, a man matching that description was seen walking in the 9400 block of Jeffrey Avenue. He tried to run away but was caught by police after a short foot chase.
Officers recovered evidence from the man and from the scene of the arrest. Police did not release further details about the robbery.
