The city of Cottage Grove is looking for artists to create and install original, permanent artwork on an interior wall of the new Glacial Valley Park building.
The city prepared a request for proposal to incorporate art that reflects the glacial theme as well as the four values that support the culture of the park building: education, sustainability, personal development and recreation and accessibility, according to a city news release. Construction on the park building is scheduled to begin at the end of this year.
Glacial Valley Park, located at 9900 S. Ravine Parkway, is one of the newest community parks and is considered a buried bedrock valley, per the release. The valley, which is now filled with glacial deposits, sits roughly 100-200 feet deep.
Proposal submissions are accepted until March 15. Next steps include a $400 stipend for finalists to prepare a full proposal including scaled renderings, budget and detailed process for building and maintaining the artwork.
Once the final selection is made, the artist and team will be paid up to $30,000 for creation, installation and ownership of the artwork, per the release.
