An 87-year-old woman died in an accident Tuesday that occurred on U.S. Highway 61 at Minnesota Highway 95 in Cottage Grove, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
On Tuesday afternoon, a 2020 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Hazel Mitchell Johnson traveling northbound in the Highway 61 left-turn lane at Highway 95 proceeded through a left-turn red arrow while a 2015 Dodge Ram pickup was coming in the southbound lane of 61 with a green light. The Camaro was broadsided by the pickup, according to the State Patrol.
The pickup was driven by 37-year-old Jared William Bickner, also of Hastings. Bickner was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
Johnson was not wearing a seat belt, according to the State Patrol. The State Patrol did not release any additional information on the victim.
