One person was injured and several others suffered smoke inhalation in a blaze that broke out early Sunday morning in Cottage Grove, officials said.
When firefighters were called to a residence in the 8000 block of Jensen Avenue South shortly before 1 a.m., the garage was fully engulfed in flames. The home suffered heavy smoke damage.
According to a Gofundme page, the family that lives in the home was holding a memorial for a family member the next day.
“After losing a loved one, the unimaginable happened. A blazing fire took the home of Nicole Krumm, Casey Mitchell, Carol Mitchell, and Marcus Mitchell, the day prior to their fathers memorial. Vehicles are destroyed, and their home is unlivable. The emotional toll is indescribable. Everyone made it out, but had to be brought to the hospital for medical treatment. Everyone is going to be okay, but their house is gone,” a statement on the page read.
Further details about how the fire broke out or the condition of the injured person were not available Sunday night.
