The family of New York poet Holly Anderson will hold a memorial in her honor Jan. 20 at Christ the Lord Lutheran Church, 9998 90th St. S., Cottage Grove. Anderson died Dec. 22, shortly after her plane touched down in Minnesota, briefly granting her dying wish to return home before her death.

The family said the memorial will be a “celebration of Holly’s life.” An accomplished poet and artist, her work is in museum collections internationally.

Holly Anderson had been a New York resident since 1981. After the Twin Towers were hit in 2001, she volunteered at an emergency relief center called Respite 1 for three months. She was one of thousands enrolled in the World Trade Center Health Program that offers health care to those directly affected by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. She died of cancer caused by toxins she breathed in while working at Ground Zero.

She is survived by her husband Jonathan Kane, daughter Lucy, mother Margaret Anderson, brother Scott Anderson and sister Carrie Anderson-Snyder. There will be a visitation from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. followed by a ceremony and refreshments.
