A community meeting to discuss the building of three Habitat for Humanity homes in Cottage Grove will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at city hall, 12800 Ravine Parkway.

The homes are planned for the former city swimming pool site at 85th Street and Granada Avenue.

A building on the site, which has been used for storage since the pool closed in 2011, will be demolished. The city council approved the demolition Jan. 17.

Council members had considered continuing to use the building or converting the area to public space. But they decided more open space was not necessary with Grenada Park, Belden Park and the Pine Hill Elementary playground nearby.

Also, traces of asbestos have been found in the building, and the cost of environmental remediation is higher than the value of the building, said Christine Costello, the city’s economic development director

The Habitat homes are likely to be one-story, four-bedroom homes, 1,300 square feet to 2,100 square feet in size.
