Cottage Grove is calling a halt — temporarily — to the construction of solar gardens.
The City Council unanimously passed a one-year moratorium on solar gardens at a meeting last week, according to city engineer Jennifer Levitt.
In the past year, the city has received applications to build five of them. Applications have proposed gardens near 70th Street and Manning Avenue, Manning and 100th Street and Ideal Avenue and 100th.
The city needs a moratorium, Levitt said, to allow city staff to make sure regulations are adequate.
Solar gardens are arrays of solar panels that generate electricity to be sold to neighbors and subscribers.
