Charlene Stevens has been fired as city administrator in Cottage Grove.

The city council voted unanimously last week to terminate her contract.

The move followed a performance review, requested by council member Steve Dennis in September.

“I thought she did a great job in a multitude of areas,” Mayor Myron Bailey said. “We’re just looking for someone to do it all. … The most I can tell you is that the council decided it was time to move in a different direction.”

Bailey said the details of Stevens’ performance review are confidential.

Jennifer Levitt, the community development director and city engineer, was chosen as interim city administrator.

Bailey said Levitt is “better aligned” with the city’s goals and objectives and could be permanent city manager by the end of the year.

Stevens was hired in October 2015 following the resignation of Ryan Schroeder, who served for 17 years. Her annual salary was $138,000.
